The elegant name Laminaria digitate refers to the wavy appearance of the greenish-brown algae, which resemble a hand: Lamina means 'blade' and digitus 'finger' in Latin. This algae is also known as kelp or Kombu, and can be found in cold waters, including the Swedish North Sea.
